My Project
Flexible seating—like a large area rug and special chairs—can make a big difference in my fourth-grade classroom regarding academic engagement and social-emotional development. Kids feel more open and engaged when they can move around and interact, rather than being stuck in rows all day. Flexible options reduce discipline issues and increase comfort, creating a more equitable classroom environment.
When students are comfortable, they’re more likely to stay on task.
Some kids focus better when not restricted to a traditional desk and chair—wiggle stools, beanbags, or floor cushions give them choice without sacrificing comfort. Some students prefer to sit upright, while others thrive when sprawled on a rug with a clipboard.
Flexible seating lets kids choose the space that best helps them learn—whether it's reading quietly, working with a partner, or solving math problems independently.
