Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Middle school is a challenging time, and I want to ensure that my kiddos learn not only how to read and write, but to think and listen critically. My students come from a low-income community where having the skills to succeed can mean the difference between improving their life situation or staying stagnant. I have amazing kids who have dealt with various amounts of trauma in their lives, but they are resilient and they strive to better themselves. I want to help them do that.
My Project
My students are required to read a large amount of non-fiction writing. One of the best ways to keep their interest is by exposing them to articles that are relevant to their lives. Choices magazine contains articles that the students will not only find interesting, but also give them an opportunity to think critically about important issues that affect their everyday lives.
Empowering children to make positive, real-world decisions is one of the most important skills we can teach our youth.
My goal as their teacher, and one member of their village, is to ensure that my students become responsible and respectable citizens.
