My Students
Teaching seniors is one of the best parts of my job. Twelfth graders are at this pivotal place in their lives: making a choice about what the next step on their path will be after high school. The work they do in their senior year is often serving as the platform from which they will dive off of into the pool of adulthood.
My students come from all over our city to attend our school and as a result, our student body is an incredible blend of languages, cultures, and experiences that make it such a special place to learn.
With the uncertainty that this upcoming school year brings for school communities across the country, I hope my classroom will continue to be a space where students are challenged, engaged, and discover more about who they are becoming.
My Project
I am in the process of cultivating reading options for our Book Club unit this year. I believe the most successful book clubs stem from student-created groups that together decide what they want to read. Offering them a swathe of options from a multitude of authors is key! While we do have a lot of the classics you would find in AP Lit in our book room, it is imperative to continue to bring in new titles that my seniors can dig into and explore. The titles I have selected for this project represent many different points of view and experiences that will challenge students to unpack the story and how the author has gone about crafting it.
