This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Lunar New Year is an excellent opportunity to introduce literature and activities that help connect my students with cultures of others in their community. My students are English Language Learners and come from all over the world. As we go through the school year, we are investigating the cultures they each come from. We will read book, watch videos, and do some research on the yearly celebration that they will share with other classrooms.
I want my students to see the importance of knowing and respecting other cultures worldwide.
After learning about this important holiday, we will have the culminating celebration of the Lunar New Year. The students will hear stories surrounding the holiday and have some traditional food items such as fortune cookies and candies. There will be centers where they can make cards for their families, and play games with key vocabulary like bingo, and other traditional Chinese/Lunar New Year games. Gold coin charms will be given to each student as a gift of luck for the coming year. Also a entry to build the Lego projects. I’m looking forward to not only helping the students learn new things but adding to a wonderful memory from their school years.
