Children's Literature

My students need to have better access to great children's literature. I plan to give the copies of the Three Little Pigs to students for Christmas and to use the Classics collection to supplement our curriculum.

My Students

My kindergarteners are learners, friends, and sweet encouragers. I teach at a Title I school, where the vast majority of students come from low income homes. They and their parents work hard daily and my students love to celebrate their own and their classmates' learning. They are also ordinary, messy kiddos, who have accidents, forget things they needed for school, and often have busy home lives. My job is to help them grow academically and emotionally and show them the beauty, importance, and strength of pushing forward, even when life is hard.

My Project

My students need access to great literature. Many do not routinely use the resource of a library and some do not own many books, if any at all. I plan to use the collection of classics to supplement our reading units and to engage children in a love for literature and reading. Many of them are stories we have told many times in our room, and students want to read them. The copies of The Three Little Pigs will be given to them as a present to give them more books. We have read this many times and it is a class favorite that they can retell to themselves and to their families.
