This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My second graders are determined, spunky 7-8 year olds. They are eager to learn new things and want to share all their thoughts and ideas with me and their classmates. I want to provide them access to literature from authors that will make my students think about art.

I want to enhance the literature in our classroom library by offering books from authors that will make my students think about art.

My students come to school every day with smiles on their faces despite the struggles they may have at home. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic and ethnically diverse backgrounds. We are an urban school that serves grades preschool through 8th and is limited in funding in all categories.

The intent of this project is for my students to learn about one of life's greatest pleasures - art. They will learn about different artists and important themes relevant to any 2nd grader. My scholars will have an opportunity to read and learn from different authors necessary to build critical thinking skills while learning about artists from the past to the present. By studying a particular artist, my students will learn how life experiences contribute to the creativity of an artist. I intend to use these books to inspire my budding little artists.
