This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Some of my students are in High School Special Education from 9th-12th grade. The students learn best when they write things out on their own and in larger formats, such as poster board size charts, rules for math, and goals to succeed. They are able to visualize the posters around the room and use them as a reference. Our class laminates many of our smaller posters so they can be written on and utilized for years to come. Assignments that require frequent repetitive practice are also laminated such as math drills and vocabulary.

The students find it easier to work when they are able to personalize their learning based on their learning style utilizing materials that work best for them.

Our class does many hands-on activities using personal whiteboards at their desk and during small groups. The advantage to each student having their own whiteboards with markers and erasers allows them to work at their pace independently and not wait for resources. Variable types of assignments that use items such as colored pencils or markers to draw projects or color in math equation pictures help the students to stay on focus and not become frustrated with only one type of assignment.

Students utilize many resources each month and often forget to return them, or they break them in frustration which requires many erasers, highlighters, index cards, and more. Keeping everyone healthy and able to do their best requires us to practice good hygiene which often has to be modeled repeatedly in which we use a great deal of Kleenex, soap, and sanitizer.

My students love to learn and are excited for a new year and all that it brings and we appreciate you taking the time to learn about our class.
