This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Children learn through play. Kindergarten students deserve the opportunity to use their imagination daily and participate in dramatic play daily.
I teach a combination kindergarten/ transitional kindergarten class in a high poverty neighborhood.
The high school graduation rate is less than 50%. Most of my students have parents who did not attend college. My students are very creative and inquisitive. They love to use their imagination to role play.
My Project
The dramatic play costumes will be a great addition to our dramatic play area. Currently, my students pretend to be firefighters, doctors, and police officers without any costumes and surprise me with the skits they come up with. With the costumes, their play will be taken to a new level. They will expand their vocabulary as they name the various parts of each costume (air tank, stethoscope...). Most importantly, they will see themselves as those community workers.
Children learn through play.
They need hands-on experiences to help them learn. These costumes will allow my students to become doctors, firefighters, and police officers and learn about theses careers hands-on.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
