Our students are anxious to learn! Our school is for students with special needs who, because of severe emotional and behavioral issues, have not been able to learn successfully at their regular schools. They learn a little bit differently, and we are able to accommodate their differences and keep them in school and in class!
Our school provides a safe place where students can make mistakes, learn coping skills and master problem-solving strategies while continuing to be exposed to the district-wide academic curriculum.
Instead of being suspended or removed from the learning environment for extended parts of the day, our daily goal is to keep students in the learning environment.
My Project
These yoga balls, wobble seats and fidget bands are going to help my students to focus by giving them an opportunity for movement while remaining seated. Children love to move! Children need to move! Yoga balls activate both sides of the brains in order to balance on the balls. And the more active the brain - the more focused the learning. There is research that shows that alternative seating like this is particularly helpful to students with attention needs and that it not only improves their ability to learn but also improves behavior!
When students are sitting up straight, they are more likely to pay attention!
These alternative seating choices are going to help my students become more focused and attentive and that is key to success!
