Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a small public elementary school in the Bronx, NY. Our school is committed to providing all students with a well-rounded curriculum that engages students in hands-on, project-based learning as well as developing social skills and building character.

50% of our student population are from low-income families.

We work hard to ensure that economics doesn't get in the way of a quality education. Our students are eager to learn. They need a hand up not a hand out.

My Project

These supplies and materials will help young budding chefs learn how to make healthy dishes. Health and wellness are very important to ensure our children have a well-rounded education. The way we eat is a learned behavior primarily from our families and culture. In America, we are trying to make a shift in how we think about food, nutrition, and health. One way to make a great change is to start with the kids.

Research has shown that kids will eat healthier when presented with a variety of food options that taste great and make them feel better.

By providing an environment for kids to be hands-on with cooking and by planning and preparing meals they've created, they are more likely to eat it. I want students not to just read about food and nutrition, but to get hands-on experience that can become a part of their daily life. I can only imagine the looks on their faces when they get to dress the part of a chef and then eat the meals they've prepared.

Education is at the root of changing our lifestyles to reflect a healthier, balanced diet. Eating healthy also helps with learning and education. The two work together to create happy, healthy kids.
