it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is in a densely urban area, where the closest things to nature are the tiny plots of grass in front of the neighborhood homes. They marvel at the fact that I have a garden and how many different trees there are by me. I'd like to bring nature to their world so they can enjoy its splendor.
My students are first and second graders with disabilities.
Our school is in one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in the state. They are happy children, but we can make them happier. I've shared pictures of my garden with them, and they have been awestruck at the beauty of the flowers. I'd like for them to have their own "garden" in the classroom, so they can reap the benefits of tending to plants.
My Project
By enabling my students to use the resources I'm requesting, you will allow them to create a happy little nature space in our classroom. It will be a conversation starter, a center for wondering, a spot for joy to be exuded. We will use the two different planting options to compare and contrast. We will make predictions and observations about what we're seeing. These are crucial science process skills that my students need as they continue through school!
I've never known what it's like to not have nature around me.
Unfortunately, my students have never known joy like mine. I'd like them to have that opportunity. Help brighten our classroom. Help brighten their lives.
