My Students
Imagine you are 4 years old. You walk into a large building, hug your parents goodbye, and walk down a long hall to your classroom. This is your first time away from home and your first school experience. A smiling teacher waits for you in the doorway.
We are a diverse integrated preschool program that services low income, tuition, and students with disabilities, ages 3-5 years.
Preschool is the foundation and it is our goal to foster a lifelong love of learning.
My Project
Crash! “Him wrecked my tower,” “her took my block!” The sounds of busy preschoolers echos from my classroom and can be heard down the hall. Unfortunately, the engineering resources available to my preschool students are limited, to NONE. With only wooden blocks I am unable to teach new STEM concepts.
Children are EXCITED to see and EXPLORE new toys.
Their confidence grows when they show me how well they can play. I want to provide my students with hands-on materials so we can learn new concepts; but without the proper resources, our instructional time can be reduced to paper and pencil tasks. This requested preschool STEM kit will allow me to foster engineering concepts that are exciting, meaningful, and age appropriate.
With these kits my students will be given hands-on STEM challenges integrated across our curriculum. They will be taught to use foundational math skills; such as height, weight, and length to problem solve. These tools will give my students the resources needed to design, construct, and build. Having a reusable kit will also allow students to revisit a difficult challenge or create more than one unique answer. The possibilities for learning are endless.
