Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am mentoring, guiding, and working with a group of 70 very eager, inquisitive, enthusiastic, and hard-working adolescents (ranging from 14 – 17) in my Computer Science AP class. As many of the students in this class come from low-income households, they know how hard their families have to work just to put a roof over their heads and food on the table. Thanks to the rapport that I have established with my students, they have felt comfortable coming to me and telling me that their parents cannot afford a computer. A computer for this class is a necessity in order for the student to succeed. Given their eagerness to learning, many of them will request to stay after class to make use of the teacher's desktop in order to finish their assignment. Clearly, this shows their steadfast commitment and desire for knowledge! Traits such as these are commendable and should be supported, especially when it comes to adolescents.
My Project
My students are in the STEM program that was recently created at our school.
This AP Computer Science class is one of the classes in the STEM program that assists and supports those students pursuing successful careers within the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
As a teacher it is my role to facilitate the learning process for your my students as I will be providing them with the needed tools in the rapidly growing and changing technology field. The students will be able to see first-hand how simple, fun, and rewarding it is to work in this field. By having this Laptop and Raspberry pie start up kits these students will be able to create applications and code which represents 24% of their AP score.
The only way to continue to motivate, promote, and develop these adolescents is by providing them with the right tools that will send them on their way to a brighter future. Having this Laptop and raspberry pies would mean the world to these adolescents as it would open up so many opportunities for them. As their teacher, I want to do everything possible to help them succeed.
