Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A chess club would greatly benefit from three new chess sets and a chess timer to support its growth, improve practice quality, and better prepare for competitions. As interest in the club increases, it’s important to ensure that all members have the opportunity to participate fully during meetings. With limited equipment, many students must wait their turn to play, reducing valuable learning and playing time. Adding three new chess sets would allow more students to play simultaneously, creating a more engaging and productive environment.

Having identical or similar chess sets also contributes to a more organized and consistent learning experience.

Uniform boards help players focus on strategy and development instead of adjusting to different-sized pieces or mismatched equipment. This consistency is especially important when preparing for tournaments, where players are expected to be comfortable with standard boards.

A chess timer is equally essential, especially as members begin to advance in skill. Timed games teach students to manage their time wisely, stay focused under pressure, and think more strategically. Timers are a standard part of competitive chess, and having access to one during practice ensures that players become comfortable using it. It also adds an exciting and dynamic element to club meetings, encouraging quicker decision-making and enhancing overall engagement.

Investing in these materials will help the club run more smoothly and give all members the opportunity to grow as players. Whether members are beginners or aspiring competitors, having enough sets and a timer allows for better practice, fairer play, and greater enjoyment of the game. These tools are not just extras—they are key components of a strong, active, and successful chess club.
