Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Middle School/High School. We serve an urban school population that is over 90% free or reduced lunch.
My students face all the obstacles that come with growing up in economically struggling families. They have enjoyed the chess games in which I have engaged them, but we cannot afford expensive tutors. I believe instructional books will help fill the gap.
We need books that teach beginning students the game of chess. I have chosen books to fill that need. My dream is to bring my students up to the level where they can compete with chess players from other schools.
Your help will give my students the skills they need to grow intellectually and emotionally. They will realize through their work and study, they can match up with students who enjoy greater advantages in life. They will improve their self-esteem because they have done something wonderful on their own.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
