This is a diverse group of students ranging from 9th to 12th graders, some with IEPs, some in Honors and AP while others fall between the two. They are also diverse ethnically and linguistically, representing four different countries and three different languages including English.
What brings this group of students together is their love of chess or desire to learn how to play chess!
My Project
Our chess club grew from only five students to over 20 this year so we don't have enough chess boards. In a way, it's a great problem to have. Unfortunately, there's lots of watching others play rather than getting to play. The students would like to host a tournament but we don't have timers.
Chess club brings together a diverse population of students from all grades, all academic levels, different languages and ethnicities.
It's an opportunity for these students to get to know each other independent from the classroom setting.
