This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My high school students are passionate, self-aware, and driven. They come from all over Las Vegas and represent the diversity of the city. Our school works hard to create a safe environment where all students feel welcome and a part of a supportive community. We value and build strong relationships with one another, families, and amongst our community.

I work with high school students.

My chemistry honors students are eager learners always asking about how to relate the content to everyday life. My students come from diverse backgrounds. The majority of them live in low-income housing and receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

Chemistry is part abstract. Topics such as atoms and molecules are difficult to teach because of the difficulty to visualize them. It is hard to understand the complexity of its chemical properties by just using imagination that is why student find it hard to appreciate.

To help students, we (teachers) use models to represent these unseen concepts.

One of the perfect example of models used is a molecular model kit. This is used to visualize the three dimensional structure of atoms and molecules such as organic compounds. We can explore how they look like and understand their properties through molecular analysis and bond structure.

This project with emphasis on the molecular models will support my students learn molecular shapes through physical interaction with the support of the simulation we used in the class. This will help them learn the molecules are three dimensional and will help them appreciate how things are structured and how it affect its chemical properties
