My students need 2 hand held data collection units.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $874

My Students
Every time you look at students outside of school they have phones or game controllers in their hands. That is what engages them. I want to engage them with hand held data collection devices that will teach them chemistry in a manner that is conducive to the way this generation learns.
My students are just waiting to be challenged.
They want to learn. We live in a rural KY setting where farming days are still allotted and excused! My students understand how to live in an agriculture society but desperately lack the cutting edge knowledge of technology. To be successful at the post-secondary level they need to know how to use computers and data collections devices. My students could be the link to farming fuel and creating new biochemical energy sources. They are ready to be engaged as abstract science ideas become real world knowledge. They can change the future if we educate them. I am ready to see this small town get high tech!
My Project
With the Vernier Lab Quest devices students will be able to collect data with a hand held electronic device. They will be able to see the data they collect on the screen. They can use the device to type in notes as they continue through the lab. The device can then be connected to a computer to show the data each student group collects. This technology will allow each class to see data collected by all the other classes. With that information our students will be able to compare and contrast lab data and make inferences about what happened and why.
Every time I request the laptops or use technology my students are engaged.
The best thing that could ever happen in a class room is to see all students engaged, curious, and helping each other. I have witnessed my students teach each other how to use the Internet and how to vote using an activote. Chemistry is such a difficult content to learn. Students love technology. So I want to use the technology students love - to teach them something they never thought they could understand!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
