My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, write, build, and read. As the ELD teacher for kindergarten and first grade, I spend my time pushing into classrooms to teach English language learners. We are about to go 100% in person and it's going to be tight quarters in our small classrooms.
My students come from impoverished backgrounds, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
Our school is providing a fun learning camp to help our students after a crazy Covid year. We will provide targeted instruction and balance it with fun summer camp activities. Cooking and Baking club will give students real world practice in measuring, mixing and making all kinds of treats. Every day will bring a new recipe, a new challenge and a little taste test. Students will make cookies, popsicles, bread, salads and even a few main dishes. The skillet will be used daily with adult supervision for the cooking part of our club. The other supplies will be used to mix stir and stay safe near our cooking surface.
