My students need chairs that have four individual legs. The chairs that we have now only have the two legs and are on a rocker type system.

My Students

My students are Head Start children who might not otherwise get exposure and experiences in preschool if it were not for Head Start. We live in a small area in southwest Virginia. My students are excited about learning and want to explore the world around them. If it were not for our program our students may not have had the opportunity to start out their school career in such a caring and nurturing environment. We take pride in providing our students with a quality and safe learning environment to start their school career.

My Project

Currently our students have chairs that are a two leg rocker type chair. Our chairs have been helpful in the past, but are not the best option for our classroom now. The children are nervous at times because the chairs can easily be titled forward while the child is sitting in them. At times students are not able to focus on learning because the chairs are sliding away from the table. The current chairs we have present a risk of children slipping forward if the chair is titled. We are teaching independence in our classroom, this can be difficult when the children are not able to get to the table independently. The rockers on the chairs make moving the chair forward or backwards difficult without the child falling forward. Our hope is to purchase new chairs where students will feel safe and secure with four legs firmly on the ground.
