The CSS cheerleading team is composed of talented, dedicated, intelligent, and diverse students who travel from all over the New York City Metropolitan area to attend. Our school is a select STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in partnership with Columbia University. We are the only select STEM school that represents the true diverse margins of New York City.
Our varsity team is in its fourth year and continues to represent our school in the community and the nation!
Since our start, we competed and won several competitions and performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. In our second year, we expanded the program and added a junior varsity team due to high demand. Both teams have not only represented the school at games but also have a tradition of performing and holding community events. For two years, the teams performed at the Harlem Shamrock Festival, a 5K run for charity. The junior varsity students also performed at Columbia University and held a clinic for younger students to give them the opportunity and access to cheerleading.
The enthusiasm our team has not only for their school but also their community enjoys sharing their tradition of staying
My Project
Through this project, our students will experience various learning opportunities. First, they will learn what it is like to fundraise for a large event. They will learn communication skills and economic skills to help them and their teammates reach their goal. Second, through this experience, they will learn new cheerleading skills through workshops, practices, and the performance itself. Third, students will be able to meet and network with individuals from various parts of the country and from communities very different from theirs.
By participating in this event, they will learn more about empathy and appreciation for the opportunity that they have been given.
In addition, this event would allow our team to represent our school in front of the whole nation! Our team will get to showcase our stunt, gymnastics, and dance talents in addition to exhibiting the vast diversity that exists at our school! More importantly, by going through this experience together, our team will be able to build more unity!
