This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second year teacher in a Title I school. Most of my students are English language learners and live in poverty. All of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. The crime rate in our district is 52% higher than the national average. Despite my students hardships, they come to school each day to ready learn.
I am starting a cheerleading team for the 4th and 5th graders.
This would allow students to interact with the community, experience teamwork, and leadership qualities. Our goal is that students will take the qualities they learn through cheerleading and apply them to everyday life skills.
We are hopeful we can make an impact on the poverty level and crime rate by creating a sense of community. We want students to use the qualities they learn and and apply them to their future endeavors. Most of the students do not have the opportunity to experience extra-curricular activities due financial burden. Our school does not have the funding to provide uniforms for students. Given the high poverty rate, their families are unable to spend money on extra-curricular activities. We are asking for donations for our Dragons to experience what other districts can.
My Project
By donating to our cheerleading team, our team will be able to wear nice outfits for our events. By donating this uniform, our students will wear them with pride. We wish we were able to provide our students with "real" uniforms, but through creativity we have been able to come up with our alternative. Our students are very excited about cheerleading and would be thrilled to have the opportunity to wear uniforms and show school pride! It will give our students the opportunity to feel and look like a real team should! Thank you for your consideration, our students appreciate anything you can offer.
