My Students

My students are from the inner city and love to cheer. They are predominately African American and are surrounded by challenges everyday. Many of my students are living in severe poverty and can not afford to go to a gymnasium for cheer lessons. Their spirits long to be free and rejoice, which is exactly what cheer does. Providing cheer at the school gives access for the students to be apart of a positive team, learning team building skills and communication skills.

Despite the odds, my students find hope through being cheerleaders.

I admire their creativity to invent new moves. Given an opportunity, cheer can help my students with academics and become productive members of society in the future.

My Project

My students who cheer are kinesthetic learners, who learn by doing. Putting them in uniforms will create a sense of belonging. Students who learn by doing enjoy learning more once they experience it for themselves.

In short, having a bag, matching shoes and outfits will give my students a sense of pride that often spills over into their education as well as their home life.

Helping my students be prepared for cheerleading with matching t-shirts and shorts will promote a team spirit that will not be broken. Please help to create lifelong learners by providing the essentials for cheerleading where families are struggling to provide basic everyday needs.
