My students need folding exercise aerobics mats, colorful pom poms, bows, hand held dance rainbow ribbons, and a Cheerleading Stunts and Tumbling book that will introduce a number of gymnastic moves to be successful cheerleaders.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students are special and deserve a good education!
The unique group of students that I am teaching are of great need, in high poverty but eager to learn.
They struggle every day trying to overcome basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city. They are funny, sweet and hopeful. These students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates.
My students come from many countries, so they are also learning the English language and customs of this wonderful country.
My Project
My school has very limited resources for activities or sports after school. My dream is to start a cheerleading team with students from 3rd to 5th grade. I want the students to learn to dance, tumble, stunt and teamwork. Participating in teamwork building activities inside and outside of the classroom develops a sense of social competency, learning to interpret and respond to peers' needs and developing listening skills.
Having floor mats will provide my future cheerleaders a safe place to learn and practice their awesome new skills.
The colorful hand held dance rainbow ribbons and pompoms will help put together great dance and cheer leading performances that we can learn from the book "Ready, Set, Cheer!" The students in this neighborhood do not have the opportunities to participate in sports or physical activities outside the physical education class at school. It will be wonderful to bring this team sport to my school.
