My Project

I will be teaching all core subjects in 2nd grade. I am transitioning from reading only to all subjects. I really want to actually teach the science. I feel it teaches a love of nonfiction reading to the classroom. Do not glaze over important subjects just because they are not tested. In order for the kids to be successful when they reach 5th grade they must have a solid science foundation. This STEM science unit on climate and environment will be a perfect strand because the state of Florida is a costal state and we deal with all types of climate and environment substraights! Let's see what we can do!

Come on down to The Purple Couch Lounge as we light the way through STEM science, social studies, reading, and math!

We will use the books listed as a way to inform and educate the children as we progress through this project. Each center will relate to a part of the book. Each center will contain a formative assessment that targets a level 3 from the FL B.E.S.T standards goals and scales. The student will be able to complete 4 center activities with 80% accuracy.

The TPT cards will be used to purchase premade book study packets for my students focusing on Climate and Environment. Imagine this with your eyes wide open! A child selects a book and will travel through every subject.

We will focus on Florida climate and environment standards and strive to have 70% of the class show 80% or better for the end of unit assessment. When the students are done, they will then use their novel study folder to create a Canva slide deck that teaches another all the important details they have scientifically explored.
