This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember back to when you were in middle school. What did you see every day in math class? If it was like my school, you had textbooks, whiteboards, and on some lucky days you had manipulatives. Those days are starting to change, with funding, schools are integrating technology!

My students are energetic, loving, hardworking students like most middle school students.

They come from many different backgrounds and most qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many students do not have technology other than their parents smartphones at home so the only place they are able to experience it is in the classroom. A large percentage of my students this year are English Language Learners.

My Project

My students and I are requesting electronic devices to use in the classroom with apps and online resources. The first device we are trying to get is an iPad. There are so many different apps that we can use in stations or as a whole class to help master the many Common Core State Standards in Math 8. We also are interested in using online resources like Socartive, Edmodo, and webquests to make our learning more interesting and relevant to our lives. The iPad will also be used to help some of the English Language Learners with dictionary and translation apps. These students will have the ability to look up and identify words and phrases that are unknown to them and be able to link them to the concepts that we are learning in class.

Some of my students have very little at home so when I can bring something new and exciting in the classroom like a an iPad, I get so many kids to buy into the learning!

My students need something to look forward to every day and I believe that this will be the thing that will motivate them the most!
