My Students
Our students are ages 4-11, in grades pre-k though 5th. We value education very highly here. The students in our school are thirsty for learning, and come to our school from literally around the neighborhood and around the city, some from around the world. We have a highly diverse population, encompassing students whose families have immigrated from countries such as China, Pakistan, Israel, Russia, Haiti and Trinidad, just to name a few. We also have students on all ability levels from gifted and talented to those with special learning needs, and everything in between.
As the school's library/media specialist, it is my pleasure to teach every single student in the school.
This gives me the rare opportunity to work with the same students year after year.
My Project
Our school has a annual subscription to Destiny, which is an automated, online library circulation and inventory system. Every child in the school, as well as every staff member and parent, has access during the week to the library, and is able to check out books during each visit.
Lately, our dedicated Windows desktop for circulation and bar code scanning has been acting up.
It is slow and running an older operating system. My goal is to update this computer so that whenever a student or adult needs to check-out, the process is quick and efficient. This computer will literally effect every member of our school community.
