My Students
I teach in a Title I school. The majority of my students are from a low-income background. Every student in our school receives free breakfast and free lunch due to the overall poverty in our area. My students come from diverse educational and literacy experiences. For most of my students, my classroom provides their first educational experience.
Experiences in kindergarten provide the building blocks for a successful educational career!
Funding for tools in our school has been limited due to the impacts of Hurricane Irma. These students are eager to learn and ready to blossom into lifelong learners! I am searching to provide those tools for my students!
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, I assess my students differently as most students aren't typically able to read or write. We assess our students daily through performance-based tasks, formatives, and informal observations.
By using this iPad I will be able to pull up my data and give others a glimpse of the learning that is happening in our classroom.
The iPad will allow me to easily assess the students on many different skills such as their letter recognition and sight word recognition. It will allow me to easily make notes of observations which can then be used to re-mediate students during small group time.
By using this iPad I can give parents a look at their child's successes using an amazing program by ESGI. I can also teach the students about data and how well they are doing in class. Most importantly, I will be able to analyze my data from assessments and find any gaps that may need to be closed. This will allow me to learn the best strategies to teach my students. Using this technology will benefit my practice as a professional educator by enhancing my ability to assess student's needs immediately.
