My Project

Being a high school student can be exhausting. Students often need downtime to decompress, but instead of decompressing with cellphones or laptops, Mr. Rustin and Dr. Hawkins want to give them another outlet. This one allows them to unwind, but also flex and build some brainpower. Thus, Mr. Rustin and Dr. Hawkins give space and time every Wednesday during lunch for high school students to meet and play chess. There, students get away from the stress of the classroom and build camaraderie with their peers. More importantly, they also get to exercise their minds in incredibly productive ways, such as building and boosting critical thinking, problem-solving, and planning skills, through chess.

We want to continue fostering student relationships and their mental acuity, while also building a strong culture of chess competition at the school.

However, to do that, the club needs to improve their holdings, such as acquiring new competition-size chess boards and clocks, in addition to obtaining some introductory chess books for students wanting to learn more about the immortal game and how to play.

Your contribution will go a long way in helping students find productive outlets to decompress from the stresses of being a high school student, while helping build crucial cognitive skills. Thank you for assistance!
