Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I service live in the South Bronx. Most of the students live below the poverty level and reside in public housing. Currently, I will be working with first grade students in an ICT setting. These students are performing at various levels from on to below the grade standard. The population of the children in my class are either English language learners, students will disabiliates and general eduation students.

This academic year my goal is to spark a love of reading and writing for all my students!

My students are children that require school to be a place where they not only embark on a learning adventure everyday but an enviroment that reminds them daily; that they are important, that they matter and that we have high expectation for them.

My students are curious little beings that are eager to explore books and tap into thier own lives as authors.

My Project

An anchor chart is a tool that is used to support instruction. As I teach a lesson, I create a chart, together with my students, that captures the most important content and relevant strategies.

Classroom anchor charts serve a duel role; they make the teacher's thinking visible when the strategy is modeled and it is a reference tool for students while they work in groups, partnerships and independently.

Teachers are provided a limited supply of resources and many times we create digital charts. However, this does not allow students to refer to charts that were used in previous lessons. The materials I am requesting in this proposal will ensure that my coteacher and I are able to create colorful charts for all of our lessons.
