it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you walked into a New York City classroom lately? In the ideal classroom you would see charts, that clearly depict the units of study, and are used as a reference source by students. Unfortunately, continuous budget cuts have made supplies like charts and markers scarce.
Most of my students are English Language Learners.
They are approaching grade level and some are academically at risk. But like most kids in the area they face many challenges on a daily bases, but continue to be resilient and have a love for learning.
My Project
With the fulfillment of this proposal, the various materials will help to aid and better support my instruction across all content areas. During the mini-lesson I will be able to present students with vocabulary charts, which include visual aids, to support the English Language Learners in my class. I will be able to create charts that will support students with specific tasks and procedures. It is a mandatory process that we create charts to assist with the student's learning. This is so that they are able to internalize the learning objectives of each lesson. I will be able to track and assess my students learning by engaging in guided practice, before they attempt a task with their partners or go onto working independently. Access to these materials will allow more authentic learning opportunities to sprout as the class explores together. With your help, it will prevent the need to ever worry about running out of chart paper. These charts will not only elevate the level of instruction in by classroom, but also the level of learning.
