This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? Our students may have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations, but they have also not yet met Charlotte, Wilbur, Fern, and the rest of E.B. White's gaggle of lovable characters.
My grade partner and I teach 50 high-energy, loving, and eager readers.
These kids come to school every single day, ready to learn, and excited to dig into our classroom libraries. These kids are not aware of what they miss out on due to lack of funding.
Our school serves students in Head Start and grades K-8. Since opening our doors in August of 1995, we continually strive to be one of the premier schools in our district. Our students, parents, faculty, and administration are second to none. Our school climate is focused on ensuring that all students achieve success.
In our community, 87% of the students are minority and 37% of the students are English language learners. Nearly 95% of the children attending our school qualify for federally subsidized free or reduced-price food services, a nationally recognized poverty indicator. Our most important goal is to increase student achievement and that happens by providing reading materials that the students are able to engage with.
My Project
My grade level partner and I are requesting 50 copies of Charlotte's Web so that each of our third graders can have their own copy of the book. We will use these books daily, throughout our 4-week unit. Our unit of study will explore questioning, predicting, cause and effect, point of view, dynamic characters, summarizing, character traits, inferring, schema and connections, mind movies and visualizing, synthesizing, and theme. We would also love to feature a lesson on comparing and contrasting after we finish the book, using the film adaptation.
Your donation to our project helps ensure that students will engage with a well-loved and classic book that we, and many others, feel every young reader should have access to.
Not only will our students have the chance to fall in love with White's dynamic and favorite characters, they will also have the opportunity to learn and explore many types of literary analysis while enjoying the story. You will give our students the chance to truly learn and appreciate the excitement within this novel.
