My Students
My favorite book when I was in 2nd grade was Charlotte's Web. My school does not have multiple copies of the book. I want my students to each have a copy of the book to enjoy together!
My students are ethnically diverse, and they come from high poverty.
English is not their first language for some of them. Many of them have illiterate parents. They have migrated from other countries and I want them to be exposed to good classic literature. They need to increase their comprehension of difficult texts. I want them to love reading, as much as I do.
My Project
If I had 25 copies of the same book, I could form a book club in my classroom. I can read to my students, and they can follow along. We can take turns reading. They can read to each other. They can read at home with a family member. Charlotte's Web is a perfect way to kick off a book club in my classroom, because it is simply an amazing book!
I believe in my students.
I have a love for teaching and I want my students to be challenged, despite whatever is lacking in their life. I feel that a simple novel has the ability to change a child's life. If I had 25 copies of Charlotte's Web, I will foster a community of readers.
