Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher who loves to make sure my kids are always prepared for their day. My students love to learn and always try their best to stay focused during the day. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and strive to give them the best of me.

My Project

The computer charging cart will be used everyday by myself and my neighboring teachers every day in our classes. We have been blessed with many different devices from chrome books to iPads and need to keep them charged and stored safely. With the transition to Common Core mathematics, students have been given larger, real-world problems that require technology at an earlier age. Introducing laptops in the early grades, means that by eleventh grade, class time does not need to be spent on how to use the technology. During this crucial year, the focus can be on learning mathematics.

Giving low-income students access to new technology is an investment in their future.

My hope is to give the students technology will help give them a larger student voice!

This computer cart will solve the problem of keeping older technology charged and available for younger students.
