My Students
I am lucky that I will be working with an amazing group of fifth grade students that are eager to learn mathematics! They have been giving it their all each and every day while learning remotely this school year.
Many of my students are coming from low-income households or are English language learner students.
Coming from a low-income household should not be an excuse for these students to not be successful in school and they deserve all the wonderful tools to help them be successful in math.
My Project
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in my fabulous fifth grade students learning remotely for nearly a year. Every day they use their iPad to access class through a video conferencing platform and they have been rockstars during this remote learning time. We are hoping that these students will soon return to the classroom for in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year.
With teaching in a concurrent model (teaching to hybrid and remote students at the same time), students that are learning in person will need their iPads charged at all times.
Having access to a durable charger that can charge up to 10 devices at one time will greatly help students remain engaged in the classroom lesson while learning at school.
This project also includes other supplies to help make our classroom more welcoming to our students who have been away for nearly a year. This includes a text titled "Hacking School Discipline" which will provide me with ideas for restorative practices in the classroom. It also includes "Fifth Graders are #1" pencils to help welcome our fantastic students back to school. Thank you for your help in welcoming my students back to the building!
