My Students
My students are from a Title I school in rural Oklahoma where I also grew up. A large percentage of our students live below the poverty level and have rarely experienced the world outside of our local area. They need opportunities to gain new experiences with hands-on learning about the world outside our rural area.
COVID has provided new challenges for my students and my classroom: Moving from a traditional learning environment to one without pencil and paper has been good, but sometimes frustrating for them.
I know they have the desire and ability to learn and grow; they just need the opportunity and the tools. Exploring ideas in tangible ways is something my students enjoy and have a definite interest in doing. They understand what they need to succeed; they just lack the experience and the tools.
My Project
We have been very successful transitioning to digital resources from paper and pencil. The only issue we have is keeping our Chromebooks charged throughout the day. As our Chromebooks age, they are no longer keeping charge for the full 8 hours.
We've sent every student home with a charger, but it is helpful to have extra chargers in the classroom so that we have them when needed.
I know that I personally have several chargers for my devices at home and at school, and I know that my students would appreciate this convenience as well.
