My Students
My students are from a Title I school in rural Oklahoma where I also grew up. A large percentage of our students live below the poverty level and have rarely experienced the world outside of our local area. They need opportunities to gain new experiences with hands-on learning about the world outside our rural area.
COVID has provided new challenges for my students and my classroom: Moving from a traditional learning environment to one without pencil and paper has been good, but sometimes frustrating for them.
I know they have the desire and ability to learn and grow; they just need the opportunity and the tools. Exploring ideas in tangible ways is something my students enjoy and have a definite interest in doing. They understand what they need to succeed; they just lack the experience and the tools.
My Project
Chargers are one of those things that we always need extra numbers. Either someone forgot theirs at home, or it got broken, or it is just lost. Not all of our classrooms have the charging carts for students to charge their machines during lunch or when not-in-use.
Having extra chargers will help my students when they have misplaced their chargers and need an extra.
I plan to have students "rent" the chargers by leaving one of their items as collateral. They will get the "extra' benefit of a finance lesson, while still being able to keep their devices running for class.
