Over the past year and a half, I have been working on building the Title 1 program from the ground up. There was no Title teacher before I was hired, so there was not a library of resources to use during interventions. I have slowly been gathering and using programs that dive into breaking skills down for reading. Through courses and training from coaches, I have been able to learn strategies that impact student learning and growth. Teaching students specific skills related to their skill deficit is vital to having an effective intervention program. In my training, I have learned about which resources work towards filling these gaps, programs that are research based and follow the science of teaching reading. Charge into Reading provides reading materials that focus on students who are missing skills and need more practice using text to apply the skill they are working on. It also comes with activities that works specifically on that same skill. The books are high interest for students so they are engaged and interested in what they are reading. These books will be a resource for all teachers to use for intervention. I help plan intervention groups with teachers and supply materials for them to use. Students also need to have access to text that is at their reading level in order for them to read with understanding and not at a frustration level. Students will be engaged more when the text is interesting and readable.
