My Project
This story is not only beautiful to look at but addresses so many different topics. We will talk about it during calendar time, as it talks about the days of the week. We will talk about it in science when we are learning about our five senses and nutrition, and later in the year when we talk about the life cycle of a butterfly.
I requested a class set of this book to help my students learn how to use books appropriately.
During reading circle each child will get their own book to practice turning pages as I read the story. We will be reading this book during the month of October, just in time for the character parade. We will be dressing up as Caterpillars and butterflies as we practice following directions and walking around the school to show off our new favorite book. After the parade we will be coming back to the classroom to use our five senses to explore the fruit eaten in the story.
With students with special needs, lessons need to be engaging and hands on. The clothes I'm requesting in this project will be turned into caterpillar costumes, that will be used all month to allow students to act out the story in our dramatic play area and during small group sessions.
