This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students are special and deserving of a good education!
The group of students that I am teaching this year is eager to learn.
They struggle every day trying to overcome basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city. They are funny, sweet and hopeful. These students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates.
My students come from many countries, so they are also learning the English language and customs of this wonderful country.
My Project
The yoga mats and accessories was order with one goal, to provide students with tools to get to know themselves, to learn to be self-reflective, to reduced stress, and to ultimately become more compassionate, happy children. The mats will be use with my students in the classroom and I will also create a Yoga Club after school for those students that I don't service but are interested in participating.
Today's children face many challenges, giving low-income students access to different techniques will allow them to overcome anything today and in the future.
Students will not only improve their academics and grade, but with the use of the yoga mats and accessories they will develop their character. The techniques will help them develop the ability to persevere, will teach them to be optimistic, to advocate for themselves, and overall to cope with any stress and/or frustration they might face today and in the future.
