My Students

"Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up." [Jesse Jackson] Help us educate our Pre-K through third grade students about important life skills of RESPECT, INTEGRITY, and KINDNESS through Literacy-based, character-building discussions and projects.

"Set YOURSELF as the standard." [Chinese proverb] Our role as Educators is to support the development of the WHOLE child.

This includes critical lessons about the importance of: Respect for ALL during these formative years. As a successful Early Childhood School, we provide a nurturing, yet rigorous community of learning. Our Integrated, NYC classrooms are filled with a wonderful group of eager learners: ● English Language Learners (ELL students) ● English as a Second Language (ESL students) ● Students with Special Needs ● General Education students Our commitment to differentiated instruction supports Students of all ability levels in every classroom. Our community is quite international with almost 70% of our students coming from homes where English is spoken as a second language. One-fifth of our students receive extra support for learning English. We also provide communication materials to Parents in four home languages (English, Chinese, Spanish & Korean).

My Project

All of our Students are encouraged to think critically and explore through a hands-on, process–based curriculum. LITERACY IS INTEGRATED INTO ALL CURRICULUM AREAS. With these 47 CHARACTER-BUILDING BOOKS, we will focus on a specific topic each month and implement that theme in all classes. For instance, one theme will be RESPECT FOR ALL - specifically focused on DIVERSITY. Using age-appropriate books in each grade level, every teacher will read the featured books with their students as a tool for CHARACTER EDUCATION and as a way to initiate and encourage open discussion. Requested BOOKS include: "King Series" Kindergarten Collection, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today," and "Words Are Not for Hurting." Pre-K and kindergarten students will talk about their diverse families. Grade 1 will discuss the importance of kindness to others. Grade 2 will learn about diversity. Grade 3 will discuss putting an end to bullying. With your help, we will continue this approach throughout the school year.

We are a Title I, New York City Public School - nearly 60% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch.

Our students are dedicated and inspired learners, who deserve our support to help them succeed in all areas of their education. Education in these early years needs to challenge children to achieve high academic standards while developing a POSITIVE SELF-IMAGE and GOOD CITIZENSHIP.
