Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
First graders are nothing short of extraordinary. They come to school everyday with bountiful amounts of wonder, excitement, and determination to learn. Forty-eight percent of the students at our school are English Language Learners, and 90% of our students come from low-income families. I've learned that many of my little ones face a variety of adversities at home. However, I've also learned that 6 and 7 years old are not only some of the most resilient little humans I've encountered but the most loving, accepting, and not to mention, hilarious little humans on this planet.
My Project
This year I have many students who are already reading above grade level! These chapter books will help me differentiate my instruction by providing my students with books at their reading levels. These chapter books will also make reading fun by allowing us to participate in a book club style guided reading center! I specifically chose Freddy Ramos, Junie B. Jones, and Nate the Great books because I know my students will be able to relate to both characters and thus be more engaged in the reading. I know these books will keep my students wanting to read more and look forward to our book club meetings!
