Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember your first "chapter" book? You puffed out your chest in pride because you could read the "big kids" books now. My students are missing out on this excitement because of the lack of chapter books available to them at their individual reading level.
I teach at a large urban school in Southern California.
Most students come from low-income families and all students are given free breakfast and lunch. The majority of my class is made up of second language learners who need access to books to develop their vocabulary and reading skills. Most of my students have little to no access to books at their reading level. I know that if they had these books they would develop an excitement for reading.
My Project
I have chosen a wide variety of titles to address my student's interests and various reading levels. I want my students to borrow these books and take them home to read. I plan to provide motivation and reward when my students complete reading logs. I will give my students opportunities to share about what they are reading with their classmates in hope that they will persuade their friends to read.
Your donation will contribute to a child reading...reading!
When a child knows how to read, he/she can be successful in school and his/her future. On the contrary, most students that don't spend time reading lose interest academically and thus starts the snowball effect of falling farther behind academically. When you donate you can be confident that you contributed to a child developing a love for books.
