Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Are you an avid reader? Is it hard to put down a good book? My students are just beginning to experience the joys of reading chapter books. They love to read but need the books!
I have 32 students in my second grade classroom.
My students attend a public school. They are all English Language Learners, which means English is not their primary language. The students mostly come from low-income homes, and according to the State Board of Education, 99.3% of the students at my school were low-income students in 2009-2010.
My students enjoy reading but many of them have no opportunities to purchase books to read at home. They look forward to checking out books from our classroom library every week.
My Project
I am requesting help to provide more chapter books in our classroom library. The students are always excited to check out books but often times the book they want is already taken. I would like to be able to give the students more choices and opportunities for reading by adding 3 chapter book sets which will include titles from the Magic Treehouse and Junie B. Jones.
I hope you will be motivated to help these second grade students become better readers.
The new books will encourage the students to read more because they will be so excited to hold a new book in their hands.
