My Students

My students range from 6-8 years old and the majority come from low-income households. I have 20 students in my current class as well as 24 students in my guided reading class.

My students are full of energy and love to laugh and learn!

One thing that my students get excited for every day is to read to self, a friend, or a stuffed animal (book buddy). Unfortunately, for my higher level readers, I do not have many chapter books to engage them.

My Project

As my first year of teaching slowly comes to an end, I took some time to reflect on what I needed to ensure my incoming students would have everything they need to succeed.

For guided reading, I have the pleasure of educating the excelling students who love to read and are constantly trying to challenge themselves to become even better readers.

Unfortunately, with being a first grade teacher, I do not have many chapter books for these students to read.

By supporting this project, you are putting over 100 new chapter books into the hands of over 40 students a year. This will expose them to new vocabulary as well as maybe sparking a new love for reading in a certain series of books!
