This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our favorite time is read-aloud time. In our student population, we have emergent, independent, and advanced readers. They represent a "slice of the American pie," from different races, ethnicities, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. My curious and active students love to learn about people who have changed the world. Given their diverse abilities and needs, they require a selection of biographies that speak to their interests and backgrounds. Books from the Little People BIG dreams collection can foster skills within the genre of nonfiction as they work in partnerships or groups to research specific people and their contributions to the world.
Giving them poster board, brushes, and other resources to conduct research and share images and writing about important individuals in history, the arts, and science will empower them through the genre of biography.
Having books on familiar figures and those who have changed the world will inspire our students to use nonfiction text features to advance their knowledge through research,
They need books from the Little People Big Dreams series, along with art materials to research various biographies of people who are relevant to the times and to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, as well as sports, entertainment, and the visual arts.
