Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a k-8 school as a special education teacher. I teach grades 6-8 in a special education classroom called SOAR. This program is for students with a range of disabilities such as emotional disturbances and oppositional defiant disorder. My students are labeled as the "bad kids" who cannot be taught in a traditional setting.
My students are eager to learn new things despite their challenges.
They want to be treated the same way as the general education students.
My Project
This project is to give my special needs students a more culturally responsive library in their classroom. I have chosen a selection of books that I want to read as class novels with my students this year. Our classroom library is not very plentiful and I wanted to get books that are going to grab their attention and they would be able to relate to them.
Students will engage in lively activities and discussions centered around each book that we read.
This is to get them more interested in the books that we read and get them more interested in reading.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
