We need these books, "Be a Changemaker", "How to Start Something That Matters" and "Finance 101 for Kids" in order to help us think about making our own business successful.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
My colleague, and I, are assisting the first Young Entrepreneur's Club at our Science Academy. Our public charter school is an eclectic mix of middle and high school students working hard to overcome obstacles and to achieve success regardless of their personal situations.
Almost 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced price meals.
We have a 0% drop-out rate and a 100% college acceptance rate. Our dedicated staff takes personal interest in helping our students succeed not only academically but socially and emotionally as well. It is our goal to produce well-balanced, productive young adults that have the tools they need to be responsible, contributing members of society.
My students should be able to become financially knowledgeable about money and the costs to have and run a business. Part of the learning in my Young Entrepreneur's Club is that they have to build their own companies from ground up. The books requested in this project; "Be a Changemaker", "How to Start Something That Matters" and "Finance 101 for Kids" will give them background knowledge and help them in the club. They have started with seed money they have earned from building and marketing a headboard bench. From here, they design, market and run their own businesses. One example is Dee Dee's Nail Shop wherein my student and a few friends will begin operating a nail salon after school. Others are working together as a team to set up a coffee lounge/student store on campus each Friday. No matter what they do or where they go, they have to have a fundamental understanding of money.
In Their Own Words
"Mrs. D is teaching me to make my own business. It's fun! I like making money with my friends. There is a bunch to think about really. I thought all we had to do was just start it. I want to learn how to have a business for my future."
"Well, most of what I will be doing with my new books is reading mostly. But, I think I can teach my friends some of the ideas we are thinking up for businesses. So, my leadership is to make a good business that will last till next year. Then, other's can learn how too."
"My parents have their own companies. My dad works on roofs and my mom cleans houses. I thought if I learned how to do a business I could help them out with money and give good ideas how to help them too. I want them to know I can do it too."
