This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school has approximately 75 fifth graders that want to be experts in all areas of learning despite the challenges we are faced with this school year. Since I am looping up with my 4th graders to 5th grade, I know each and every one of my students are eager to continue learning and want to give back to their community in a time of great need.
Our students deserve every opportunity we can provide them so they can be empowered to change the world for the better.
We are a Title I school with many low-income students and access to school materials is not readily available outside of school. I want to provide them with the tools and skills that will help them grow.
My Project
As my students are learning about the world, they are also learning about themselves. It is crucial for them to be immersed in literature that reflects them as well as others. They need stories that value who they are, stories that tell their history, stories that they can relate to.
High quality, multicultural literature will empower my students to make positive change in the world since they will see themselves in the stories and learn from the diverse authors of these books.
My students will be eager to read about the variety of themes in these new class books. They will be prepared to engage in critical thinking and self-reflective conversations that will stem from these stories.
