My Students
Welcome to 6th Grade! Everyday, I get to teach and love a group of 29 6th graders who love to learn, think and make mistakes. We learn from each other in our journey to get to college. We practice empathy, drive, and diversity of perspective as we master our English-Language Arts skills!
My students come to school everyday ready to learn and grow.
To them, school is a safe haven, where they can depend on getting a hot meal, positive social interactions and love from their teacher.
My Project
Our upcoming unit in 6th grade requires students to practice their empathy skills as they choose which text they would like to read about students who have experienced bullying from their peers.
Rather than using the same standard texts, my students need to be given the opportunity to practice their diversity of perspective as they read about students who are a little different from them.
With the help of two amazing young-adult books, George by Alex Gino and Ghost by Jason Reynolds, student will be able to explore the idea that studying English can give them the power to make changes in any aspect of their life.
With these texts in the back of their mind, my students will begin to problem solve about bullying in their own community to become Change-Agents at our school.
